noticed, hit parts of the uk overnight with many people including me being woken up in the early hours of the morning by dramatic lightning strikes. , ., , , strikes. these lightning flashes were captured _ strikes. these lightning flashes were captured in _ strikes. these lightning flashes were captured in essex - strikes. these lightning flashes were captured in essex and - strikes. these lightning flashes i were captured in essex and others managed to take impressive photos of the storm. this is a lightning bolt that appeared over portsmouth and a windmill in west sussex was completely lit up. in kent, a storm chaser took this remarkable photo and more thunderstorms may be on the way, elizabeth rizzini can tell us. yes, possibly. you can see the storms tracking in from northern france, frequent lightning, really quite spectacular, around 4000 lightning strikes a recorded across the south of england, some torrential downpours and the line of

thundery showers pushing northwards and petering out and may be more thunderstorms for some as we head through this afternoon. there will be a lot of sunshine around as well particularly towards the north and the west so if we take a look at the bigger picture, some thundery showers are possible across wales, the midlands and east anglia. further south it's cooler, drier and quite a lot of cloud around and it's cool and cloudy towards north sea coasts as well with the onshore wind. the best of the sunshine across parts of northern ireland and scotland, where we could get to 22 celsius in the north—west of scotland, the place to be, also possibly 22 degrees in parts of east anglia again today. 0vernight tonight i will weather front keeps waving a little further north, but further south, waving a little further north, but furthersouth, bringing waving a little further north, but further south, bringing further outbreaks of rain, thunderstorms approaching east anglia by the end of the night. further north the drier picture and a frost free start to the day, some mist for north sea facing coasts. 0n to the day, some mist for north sea facing coasts. on friday and were waving front makes up its mind and starts to push a little further northwards bringing the cloud and

outbreaks of rain with it. watch out for some more thunderstorms are spreading northwards and westwards as we head throughout the day. i think we will see quite a lot of sunshine across scotland. clouding overfor sunshine across scotland. clouding over for northern ireland, sunshine across scotland. clouding overfor northern ireland, some sunny spells appearing across the south of england as well but here it's a lot cooler than it is today. a massive drop in temperature for east anglia but 2i—22 celsius for north—west scotland. as we head through saturday the weather front is further north bringing cloud, outbreaks of rain with it, so the best of the sunshine probably in the south on saturday, but i really wouldn't rule out one or two showers as well. temperatures around the seasonal average as we head through the bank holiday weekend. as we go into sunday, probably the focus for the showers will tend to bid towards the showers will tend to bid towards the south because the area of low pressure is rolling in from the south—west here, but there is a lot of uncertainty as we go through the bank holiday weekend and if you keep checking your app it's not going to be reliable or consistent at this stage but things will firm up. what

the first of those is tonight at chelsea where ange postecoglou is hoping their poor record in conceding goals from set pieces won't continue even if he's not been working on it. to quote billyjoel, you may be right, i may be crazy,... i am just not interested, i never have. enough of you have done enough research on you to know this is not the first time i have been questioned about set pieces in my coaching career. there is no underlying reason for that, which i am very, very comfortable with. eventually i will have a team that has success and it won't be because of working on set pieces. chelsea manager mauricio pochettino will be coming up against his old side for the second tme this season having ended spurs' unbeaten premier league start in the first. the argentinian will celebrate his 400th game as a manager in england

with most of those during his five—and—a—half years in charge of spurs. it is emotional, these are people we have worked with for a long period. i cannot hide my emotion for the club. yes, it is going to be emotional because i am facing my former team. the semifinals of snooker*s world championship are under way with three qualifiers in the last four for the first time since 1977. stuart bingham is the only former winner left. he'll play jak jones starting at seven this evening. david gilbert is up against kyren wilson in the other semi. gilbert, following a tough few years on tour, wasn't feeling very motivated about qualifying for the crucible but he's made it through to the last four. he's lost the first frame here, though, still a long way to go — it's the first to 17 frames.

and like another prospect on the nfl's interntaional player pathway louis rees zammit who signed with the kansas city chiefs he's having to learn a whole new sport having never played american football before. learning a brand—new game you have to take every day as it comes, take a little chunks out of everything you are learning and eventually it will all come together. sometimes it may be a little bit overwhelming learning a brand—new sport. everyone watches the game on tv. so to learn that from scratch, you have to take every little bit and hope it comes together at the end. one of the most eagerly anticipated events at any summer olympics is the 100 metres. this time round there are high hopes of medal success for zharnel hughes — britain's fastest man and winner of the bronze medal at last year's world championships. 0ur man mike bushell went to meet hughes and the man whose british

the west bank is another section of palestinian territory that has received less attention. it's home to three million palestinians and is partially run by the palestinian authority, but there has been an israeli military presence for decades. that military presence has drastically increased since the beginning of the war and violence has been surging. a special investigation by isobel yeung, josh baker and sara 0beidat has uncovered new evidence about the killing of two boys by the israeli army. you may find some images in isobel young's report distressing. 0n the 29th of november last year, basil and adam were killed by israeli forces. our team have been piecing together what happened. we have been able to collect footage and mobile phone footage, witness testimony and information about the movements of the military that day and that has allowed us to create a timeline

of the shootings. in the afternoon a convoy of at least six israeli armoured vehicles was returning from a nearby raid and we have tracked the route acrossjenin which took them past the street where basil and adam were. the boys and around seven friends were out on the street. cctv footage from a shop shows basil in the foreground holding something in his right hand and making a movement with that with his left hand towards it. you see him shot and falling backwards. more bullets hit the ground nearby. video from another angle shows eight—year—old adam slightly further down the same street from basil and he is shot in the back of his head as he is trying to run away. he also falls this time forwards and is dragged behind a car. we were also able to obtain another crucial video of this incident which is a nearby boy
