spending on healthcare, housing, and insurance so i thought wait a second that sounds like all inflation. >> yeah, no, growth or inflation? >> this is the conundrum for the fed, the economy contrary to wall street perception not strong what is driving the economy any one discretionary spending all outages housing healthcare insurance, real disposable income was half the pace of total real spending so how are they sustaining this running down cards to keep up with rising cost of everything why i guess powell feels inflation situation is really sticky, proving more challenging for them, the journey from 9 to 3 was easy part, from 3 to 2 proving much
8:29 am
harder than i think they expected it would be. >> why? >> well -- >> maybe tsunami spending. >> it might have something to do with fiscal stimulus you a look at the economy basically a death driven phenomena -- debt driven illusion when you look what is going on in terms of the consumer, and not very good illusion at that we put in, in 2023 we ieds $3 1/2 trillion dollars in debt. for that we got 1.5 trillion in nominal gdp growth that is a pretty bad thing for the credit. half of that 1.5 trillion was inflation. so, you got 7 hundred billion real growth for 3.5 trillion gdp this is the modelel why fed is in a strikey situation
8:30 am
because we've got to keep debt growth expanding to continue to grow, economy needs its fuel in tank for the economy as rates move higher and higher costly of fuel goes up becomes very difficult to continue to move forward. and so they can't really raise rates, very far, because they need that growth, on the other hand they can't lower rates because inflation is still sticky so really in a tricky situation. >> jobless claims momentarily in cheryl in a second i spoke with kansas are former kansas city president thommance hoenig ahead of fed decision tomorrow's jobs' report here is what he said. >> -- i think the economy is other than fed expected it to be the fiscal policy of infrastructure, inferring, the capital demands from private sector for technology, is

8:33 am
lot of people an effort taking advantage of unemployment so numbers may not be totally reflective what is going on in labor market the other thing when you look at report tomorrow payrolls come out there is a huge divergence between full-time jobs and part-timer jobs every same you've seen part time jobs growing 7 1/2% year-over-year, full time contracting down 1 1/2% when you see that divergence has been a recession signal not surprisingly i think companies saying trying to get people back to work not running out and cutting heads we're going to chip away hours, give them less hours, eventual people say i made to a second job third job multiple jobholders near record highs part time
8:34 am
jobs numbers soaring full-time compliment accounts. >> great point nancy lazar with you our base case remains second half recession raises joblessness cools incomes destroys demand team is inflation on sustained base basis but four trlgsdz in economy a bifurcated economy there what is next you've talked a lot about fed balance sheets that is the tool, that they are going to use that is what you heard yesterday. >> i think, hoenig pointed out concerned about banking system request rates every day rates stay at they levels a problem for another corporate borrowerer at levels or consumer paying 23% on credit cards or banks unrealized losses sitting there almost 500 billion unrealized losses on balance sheet, last week we will see if this is beginning
