abc's senior investigative correspondent aaron katersky is here with more on that. good morning, again, aaron. >> gio, good morning again to you. opening statements in this trial follow an efficient and emotional jury selection suddenly overshadowed when a man across from the courthouse set himself on fire. this morning, a full 12-person jury and 6 alternates have been sworn in to hear donald trump's landmark criminal trial. trump was seated in court when at the park across the street a man set himself on fire. police said 37-year-old max azzarello arrived earlier in the week from florida and doused himself with an accelerant after tossing leaflets into the air. >> they seem to be propaganda based, like a conspiracy theory type of pamphlet. >> reporter: police said they would reassess security around the courthouse with opening statements set to begin on monday. even potential jurors feeling the intensity of the trial. one breaking down in tears

saying, i feel so nervous and anxious right now. i'm sorry. i thought i could do this. she was excused. those seated include five women and one man chosen from a pool of nearly 200 new yorkers who spoke about the former president. trump sought again to halt the trial while he tries to get it moved out of manhattan where his lawyer argued too many people are predisposed not to like trump. an appeals court turned him down and judge juan merchan said, there is nothing else to clarify, there is nothing else to argue. we are going to have opening statements on monday. >> the judge wants it to go as fast as possible. >> reporter: trump sat in court listening to all sorts of things including one guy who said he's a new yorker. i'm a new yorker. we don't get awestruck. there's never been another defendant like him. starting next week he will have to listen as prosecutors set out to prove he is a criminal. whit? >> whit: aaron katersky for us. thank you. now to the house of representatives set to vote on $95 billion in aid for israel, ukraine, and taiwan. speaker mike johnson relying on votes from democrats to clear a

julius randle kept climbing. joining them are the bucks, the cavs, the magic, the pacers and play-in winners the heat with the 76ers with a healthy joel embiid. in the west, the thunder securing the best record on the last day of the season. they weren't expected to be in this position. they were given 100-1 odds to win the nba title when the season started. in a tiebreaker with last year's champs, the denver nuggets, who are trying to become the eighth franchise to win back-to-back titles. behind them the timberwolves, clippers, mavs, suns, as well as the pelicans and the lakers, who will be tasked with slowing down the defending champs in the first round of the playoffs. now, the nba playoffs begin this afternoon. it's a quadruple header of games on espn and abc all starting at 1:00 p.m. eastern with the magic taking on the cavs. tomorrow on "gma," espn's malika andrews will join us live to break down even more.

abc's "pop culture moms" podcast. >> janai: looking forward to that. and here's the headlines we're following right now. the federal aviation administration announcing it will increase the required amount of rest time for air traffic controllers. this comes in response to concerns over fatigue amid a staffing shortage. under the new guidelines controllers would be required to have at least ten hours of rest between shifts, up from nine hours and 12 hours of rest before an overnight shift. the controllers union saying it's worried this could lead to holes in coverage and they're already understaffed. >> gio: good job on that transportation story. here's another one. tesla recalling its entire fleet of cybertrucks, nearly 4,000 in all. they say the accelerator pedal could get stuck causing the pickup to unintensionally speed up risking a crash. sales of the cybertruck began in november. tesla says no known accidents or injuries have been reported. >> whit: it's janai's favorite sport. we're talking hockey. things are heating up on the ice. >> janai: i saw stanley cup and thought about the water bottle.

we love talking, so let's try and let's put this on air. >> yes. >> gio: sabrina, i know you love pop culture. >> i do. >> gio: why do you love it so much? >> you know, i grew up at a time where like screen time wasn't really a thing or at least not in my house. so i was watching everything on tv and i just loved it. i was so fascinated by it. i love watching other people's lives and i love the empathy you learn from seeing other people's tor torys stories and i also love celebrities the. they're so fun. >> whit: so we'll follow your lead this morning and play along here because mother's day is just around the corner so we thought it would be fun to, you know, talk about the moms here. and so we're going to start with you, gio. is there a tv or film mom that connects with you specifically? >> gio: yeah, you know what, don't laugh. gloria from "modern family" because she reminds me of my mom. not the crazier part, but because she's intensely independent. she's like so strong. look, she knows what she wants. she knows how to get -- and that's my mom. my mom is always like that. not like that. >> whit: just like that?
