for a four-day closure of interstate 280 that will impact a lot of commuters. that begins in about two hours. it is expected to continue throughout the long holiday weekend. we're live tonight at 6:00 and on the off-ramp there, part of a two-mile stretch that is closed. >> reporter: you can see behind me the orange sign that has been posted there for days. the traffic is moving really easily right now, but the chp is expected to close this off. it is expected to be closed for at least four days starting from 9 p.m. tonight. the spokesman tells me that crews need to replace a hinge in the highway just north of caesar shove advantage. that hinge allows -- to accommodate movement in the event of an earthquake. it's very important that this work be done. about 70,000 vehicles usually travel this two-mile extreme of highway 280. most of the cars are going to be detoured to highway 101 or

south to the 280 on ramp near chavez. >> definitely impact -- i had to think about it and figure out an alternative, because definitely don't want to head that direction and get stuck on king street and realize i can't get on the highway. >> don't cut it loose:close. if you are headed this direction anywhere towards 9 p.m., get here early so that you do get on the extension. >> reporter: the chp says that traffic can especially heavy tomorrow because the giants have a game at 7:15. they will also be playing home games throughout the weekend. about a dozen parking officers will be helping with traffic in the chp and having maximum enforcement patrols this weekend to try and help with that and also be on the lookout for anyone that might be drinking and driving. california trans is really encouraging people to take public transportation to try and help ease all of the traffic. they do say that the northbound lanes will be open, but those will be closed later in the year for the july 4th and labor day weekends.

in the meantime, they say that they are hoping to get all of this work complete and have the southbound lanes reopen by 5 a.m. on tuesday. reporting live in san francisco. ktbu, channel 2 news. three hikers were restaurant business kind offed today from rocky terrain in the south bay. they got stuck and called for help at about 2 a.m. rescuer appeared to struggle while helping to bring up one hiker. news chopper 2 was over the scene. if you look closely, you can see them kind of lose their footing there and they start to slide a bit. but they do regain their footing. two other hikers were safety rescued. everyone is okay. a north bay mom accused of grabbing a boy by the throat is so far not facing charges. she made a brief court appearance today. she was arrested last week after she allegedly grabed a boy at an elementary in santa rosa and claimed the boy was bullying her daughter. the da office asked for more time to continue the investigation.

this way, but he was gone for the day. the school principle told me he learned about it just this afternoon and he would have to look at it before commenting. in brentwood, ktbu, channel 2 news. dallas mavericks owner mark cuban spoke out about bigotry and prejudice and has apologized to the family of trayvon martin. he says everyone has prejudices, including him sell several, avoiding a, quote, black kid in a hoodie late at night or a white bald headed guys with tattoos everywhere. it was the hoodie reference that threw many complaints. hoodies were a rallying symbol for the martin case. hewlett packard announced job cuts, between -- power-based company cut 300,000 workers last year. the news came in its quarterly report showing revenue fell -- fell more than two percent in response. the ceo meg whitman says the turn around is on track. they began their structuring two years ago when sales of

personal computers fell. there's a new sign that apple is growing we also know that the company is building a massive campused to open in 2016. now, they've leaseed a seven- been campus in sunnyvale. it can accommodate more than 1400 workers. not apple's first expansion. the company also leases place in santa clara. the solis that is police officers today defended its officers in deadly shootings this year. video here shows the moments right before the most recent shooting on tuesday. today police pointed out that the man was brandishing gardening shears. community anger over the shooting is boiling over during a demonstration last night, someone in the crowd shot and killed a protester. a police officer performing cpr on the victim was hit in the head by a projectile. >> when we encounter people that are angry and we've encountered a lot of them. we are allowing them to speak.

we're allowing them their voice. we're treating them respectfully. >> reporter: police are meeting with community leaders this evening. another protest is planned for sunday. doctors today delivered a baby boy from a woman who has been in a coma for months now following a seizure. the baby's father thought that he'd lose them both and says he is so grateful to have his son. live now at the hospital. after talking to that doctor -- i mean to that father, katy, on this very emotional day. >> reporter: it's hard to be sand with a newborn around. but the father is feeling both over joynd and overwhelmed. because up until this morning, he didn't know whether or not his unborn son and pregnant wife would survive. meet five pounds, 9-ounces. >> got his mom's nose and ears and he's opening his eyes and looking around already. >> reporter: brian is a proud father. but he and his wife melissa are

facing challenges unlike most parents. she suffered a seizure following a treatment for benign brain tumor. she's been a coma since mar yet brought her baby to full term. >> having to go through -- relate worrying that we weren't going to get either. and so to at least know that i've got one of them now. >> reporter: doctors deliver him via c section at 10:56 this morning. >> as happy as i am to meet my son, it is incredibly painful for melissa not to be awake with me. >> reporter: melissa's injury to her brain is in the area that controls wakefulness. so she still may be aware of what is happening. before surgery, she moved brian's hand to her stomach where the baby was kicking. >> she was able to reach up and touch my face and she puckered for a kiss, which is interesting as we waited for -- for months to happen and she

did them today. >> reporter: now, that the baby has arrived healthy, he'll be balancing everything and returning to work as sheriff's deputy. >> i'm overwhelmed. i have no idea what i need right now. i can't see further than my nose. >> reporter: a retired detective and his wife donated their apartment so brian has a place to stay while in san francisco. he plans to be here for several months. and if all goes well following melissa's surgery today, she will be moved to a long-term care facility for her brain injury, possibly in morin county. but in the coming months and years. the family is going to neild the continued support of the community. but up until this point, they sather extremely grateful. live in san francisco, ktbu channel 2 news. you may want to check your refrigerator. a big food recall is underway because of a contamination. the food maker issued the

the anti terrorism team is back from an international competition held in jordan. they were the only team from the united states among counterterrorism groups from other names. the competition was a chance to learn new training methods and to make contract with other anti-terrorism professions for support and advice. >> the remains of a young humpback whale floating in the harbor right now, drawing a stream of curious spectators. the whale is about 25 feet long and the scientists estimate that it might be two to three years old. it was first spotted yesterday. marine mammals are going to wait for the carcass to come to

rest and that's expected to happen. tomorrow they plan to perform a necropsy to determine why the whale died. the ntsb is calling for stricter testing standards of lithium batteries. this video shows them burning and exploding during critical tests. they're the same type used in a boeing 787. the boeing -- today the ntsb criticized the process used by the federal aviation administration to certify the new jet. the ntsb is also reviewing the faa review its lithium eye on batter testing process. some of the world largest draw makers face a lawsuit. officials from santa clara and orange county filed the lawsuit in state superior corey court. they say more than two decades, these companies have wage and campaign of deception about the benefits and risks of paper

drizzle first thing tomorrow morning. as far as temperatures, not a big change. san francisco maxed out, pretty warm squad concord, san jose topped out 76. on the satellite and radar, you'll see some showers and thunderstorms moving into the eastern parent parts of the states. we still have the marine layer clouds just offshore, actually pick up in coverage over the next few hours, sneaking right on to the golden gate bridge and back into the bay. current numbers showing you pretty chilly already. 53 in san francisco, santa rosa 64. lower 70's in some areas and san jose checking in, 66 degrees. what's happening, we have a lay early of warm air up above us, compressing the marine layer. as a result, that fog becomes pretty dense. you're going to be have dropoff visibility, especially driving highway 1 as that air continues to compress. looking out toward the bay, here's the transamerica pyramid
