learn more about the bay area victims in santa barbara. new details tonight on that deadly rampage near uc santa barbara in isle vista. some people that new elliot roger spoke. he left a manifestto and video a few minutes before he died through isle vista killing six people and himself. he talked about hate, revenge and his plans to kill. a child hood friend says that roger was quiet to the point that it did not seem normal. >> he was soft spoken and he would say one word answers but never start a conversation or anything. >> another friend says that roger fan ta advertised against dominating the world and that he complained about his problems with women.

the tragedy near uc santa barbara has shaken people in the bay area as well. three of the six victims were from the bay area. all students. 13 people injured and at least one was a college student visiting from the bay area. the university has declared tomorrow a day of mourning and there will be no classes. ann reuben has more from san jose where she spoke to two people that knew the victim. >> the family of george chen was heading to santa barbara to speak with authorities and make arrangements. >> it is too sad to say anything. >> a spokesperson spoke to a man that said he was such a good boy. >> he was very involved in the community and tried to help people. >> and now loved ones are trying to make sense of what

happened. >> chen and her roommate was stabbed to death by roger. and austin phillips is in shock. >> no one deserves that, especially not him. >> this is unfortunately happening everywhere and now right here. >> it is bad. >> rock ann a neighbor says that there will be a call to action to prevent the next mass killing from happening. she has this message for chen's relative. >> i am so sorry from the bottom of my heart. i just hope it stops. >> a candlelight vigil will be held at 8:00 p.m. at santa cruz and about 1,000 people are expected to attend. ann reuben. ktvu news. the 3rd bay area victim was

20-year-old we honk wong of fremont, he was visiting when all three people were stabbed to death. the neighbors were stunned of the news. they say parents have gone to santa barbara to bring his body home. >> i saw him leave this morning and we were very sad and in mourning so of course this entire neighborhood, our hearts go out to the kid. >> wong went to uc christian school and one of the teachers said he loved basketball and was very good at math. an update on one bay area man that was injured in that rampage. friends of nick passachut seen eastern in a hospital bed is improving and able to hold conversations were friends. his legs were broke when he was

struck by the car. he was also in santa barbara visiting a friend. the father of one of those killed unleashed his anger at lawmakers. richard martinez said there are not tough enough gun control and 26 people at sandy hook killed and now here. >> my kid died because no one responded from sandy hook. it is bad enough that i lost my 20-year-old and i had 20 years with him but those that lost their 6 and 7 years old, how do you think they feel? why wasn't something done? it is out ragous. >> chris martinez was shot and killed as he was getting a sandwich.

>> we follow new developments and have a special section on ktvu.com where you will find the memorial honoring the 6 victims. one person was killed and two others injured in a drive- by shooting in san francisco bay area about two hours ago. officers responded to blue avenue shortly about 5:15 after shot spotter system detected gunfire they found two victims and it is not clear which victim died and homicide investigators are taking over the case. today is memorial day and the annual ceremony at the national scenario is one of the largest events drawing 2500 people each year. the procession in the cemetery led people to grave markers and each one with an

american flag. organizers spoke on the 50th anniversary of the escalation of the vietnam war and the veterans. some said it helped heal memories. >> i assumed like it would be like world war ii where you would be welcome. >> this is the 6th year that memorial day ceremonies have been held at the presario. that our flag was still there ♪ oak hill memorial park had a wreath proceed session and rifle salute. more than 3000 mernas were placed at veteran sites. it was organized by the santa clara county. >> the loss of comrades scarred

a man is in critical condition after getting hit by several bullets. police believe this was not road rage. >> reporter: they think the victim knows the victims and he followed them and targeted them at this intersection and residents are stunned because they say this never happened in their backyard. >> bullets went off like fireworks in this quiet neighborhood. and there was a violent show at the ignition of oak grove road sunday night and the gunman opened fire on a man and women in a white mercedes benz. >> this does not happen. very unusual for this to go on. we were surprised. >> never hear about something like that around here. >> the victim of the drive-by shooting had just left the concert at the concert pavilion. >> and the managed gunman pulled up and opened fire with

the semiautomatic and kept shooting. the 23-year-old woman is out of the hospital and the 36-year- old man is in critical condition. the investigators were going through the cell phone records to find out why they were targeted. >> they may be a connection there. we are not too sure about that right now. it doesn't seem to be random where a random drive-by shooting. >> investigators plan to review video from traffic cameras to see if it recorded the drive by despite the unusual shooting. homeowners won't let one crime rattle their peace of mind. >> i think it is safe. i think it was random. >> it will not change how i feel about the area or what i do. >> the gunman was driving towards concord in a light- colored sedan and a honda. police need to talk to witnesses and edging anybody with information to contact them. live in walnut creek.

a somber day and president obama placed a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. the president also singled out relatives of those lost in war including a 9 6-year-old widow that waited 63 years for her husband's remains to be located in korea and returned home to her. new developments tonight a nigerian official says that the abducted school girls have been located. 276 girls taken from their school in april by islamic extremists and 200 are missing. there will not be force to rescue them because the girls could be killed. refusals to say where the young

girls are and widespread anger for failure to bring the girls home. a fire across the street from a home depot store. firefighters say it only burned about an acre and it doesn't appear that evacuations were needed at the home depot. fire investigators are investigating. a veteran officer is recovering from two broken legs. suffered after he was hit and knocked into traffic. happened near todd road in santa rosa. officer steven rutledge was park on the shoulder after making a traffic stop when another vehicle drifted over and slammed into his patrol car. the chb says it highlights the danger of stopping on the shoulder. we are still pulling behind cars thinking their disabled vehicles and they are talking on the phone and so that's against the law and a violation and a moving violation. at this time, the driver of that vehicle that hit rutledge

sanna rosa checking in 83 degrees and oakland 68 and we showed you the warm temperatures in san jose and off to a mile start this evening and pretty much overnight lows coupling off as you would expect tomorrow morning and lots of low 50s for sanna rosa and oakland and san jose and right around the bay as well. mostly clear skies and patchy fog and cooler and the extended forecast a sun cloud mix and cooling off for the weekend. high pressure has been in command over the next couple of days. around the bay 70s and inland neighborhood around 80 and get use to the wind and they will increase throughout the afternoon. up to 35 miles per hour. here is the fog i was talking about coast side and around the bay tomorrow. and as the afternoon goes on warmer location to reach the

searchers in colorado were on the ground and in the air looking for three man in a huge mudslide. it happened near cullbrin, 30 miles east of grand junction, a water district employee and two geologists. the men were in that area after reports of problems with that hillside. princess dianna's death, reviews she died in a car crash
