rest of their life and for him that rings true absolutely. >> the audit will be presented to the city council during the first week of may and the auditor's office says the police department will need to be there to discuss the report and especially the recommendations. and paulo alto, nbc bay area news. the man accused in a mass shooting returned to court after over a year without a trial. facing a judge in redwood city courtroom today to during the hearing the judge agreed to temporarily seal all evidence from the grand jury indictment. sing a pretrial conference date for august 12 when the trial date will likely be set. accused of shooting and killing seven people and injuring another in january 2023 . later indicted by a grand jury and pled not guilty to all charges related to the shooting spree. carb break-ins leading to an arrest. over the scene this morning.

the air is blocked off while they investigated. they detained the suspect believed to be connected to several car burglaries across the city but now did not share how many people were arrested. chaos and confusion and fear is what prison advocates claim the closure of the federal women's prison in dublin is causing. enough out a restraining order to immediately stop the transfer of inmates. it is just the latest developments surrounding the scandals plaguing this facility. prison advocates spent the morning rallying outside dublin's federal correctional institution. last night they filed a temporary restraining order demanding the prison temporarily halted the transfer of female prisoners. >> the restraining order is effectively an attempt on our side to keep them from making

those transfers. >> they announced abruptly on monday it is immediately closing the prison which has been under fire for years for its history of sexual abuse. the announcement came just days after a court-appointed special master began overseeing operations. >> we absolutely see this as the vop trying to evade overall accountability. >> under the watchful eye of the judge we would have been a success story, but we were denied the opportunity as it is apparent that the bureau of prisons did not want any more transparency. >> the head of the correctional officers union says they don't want the facility to close and he is upset the bureau of prisons has brought in 80

officers from other facilities to oversee the transfers. >> this is really a confusing and traumatic time for the people inside. >> they say it has created a chaotic situation. though the judge this week ordered the special master to oversee each transfer. they say procedures are not being followed and prisoners are terrified. >> they are saying they are afraid in the food shipments have stopped. they are saying their family is terrified. they do not know what they face when they get there. it's unclear how many of them have been transferred so far. the bureau of prisons would not give us any more information saying the matter is pending before the court. jody hernandez, nbc bay area news. opening statement set to begin in former president donald trump's trial after the final members of the jury were seen today. the full 12 person jury was actually accepted yesterday, but this afternoon the last of the six alternates were also selected. that means opening statements begin on monday. they accused him of falsifying

business records is a part of an effort to hide damaging stories from voters during the 2016 election. around the same time a full jury was seated a man set himself on fire outside the courthouse. police say he is alive but remains in critical condition in the hospital. it is not currently clear what led to his action that investigators say before hand he through a number of pamphlets. the city seemed to be propaganda based about ponzi schemes and conspiracy theories. white house officials are saying very little following israel's limited military strike . as we await more details about the effectiveness of that in the damage it caused the white house is emphasizing the united states was not involved. israel's anticipated counterstrike has landed and at this point a source of money described as a limited strike inside does not.

palestinian demonstrations at columbia university students began protesting wednesday instead. the university suspended the students and told them to leave but they refused, which led to the arrest of over 100 people yesterday. in spite of that they were back there today. many of them were sitting in prayer. policy does allow them to protest in certain areas on campus. the biden administration is putting new safeguards in place on college campuses. today finalizing an updated set. meant to prevent discrimination based on sex and education. including a number of different changes but one of the biggest now explicitly forbidding discrimination against lgbtq students. that is a sticking point for some congressional republicans. they believe it was not meant to address those issues. the updated rules are set to take effect in august. this is about to begin.

it is a been a gift from china. giant pandas will soon be coming. the zoo will be seeing them as a part of china's panda program. the mayor is seeking reelection and made the announcement while on a trip to beijing. it has been decades since they were at the zoo. >> visitors we spoke with today outside said they are ready to welcome the giant pandas in the excitement is building about what this could mean for the city. >> it is great news for a local zoo. while the coveted giant pandas are expected to come to the san francisco zoo from china. regular visitors were thrilled

today was a really nice preview of what is going to be coming our way saturday and sunday. let's get you outside right now. we will show you what you can expect over the next couple of hours. right now in san francisco we have a lot of blue skies from this vantage point. there is some fog at the coastline keeping temperatures down. 55 degrees. hanging onto those 50s individually some fog coming

back later on tonight. it is also cool because of that foggy breeze. 65 but holding onto sunshine. down to 58 at 8:00. there a lot of the inland valleys we are currently in the 70s patronized 73 degrees. hanging onto the 70s through 6:00 and then getting into some 60s through 7:00 and 8:00. the this weekend there is no way no how we get into rainfall with high-pressure going to keep the storm track to the north. genuinely some warmer air moving in despite the fact we will have some fog in the morning. overall we are shaping up really good as we slide into the weekend. started off with the fog right here in the through the afternoon tomorrow the sunshine returns across the bay area. even the coastal areas should get a good amount of sunshine. as we started off tomorrow morning we are back down to 53 over the south bay. low 50s for the tri-valley. we will see some of the forecast through the east bay and north bay. daytime highs. a lot of 70s moving on and. does not matter where you are. when you get close to the bay you are pretty much a lock for those temperatures. 75 right here. 79 in morgan hill. to the east bay. 72 in oakland. 76 in fremont. the coastal areas. cool with a foggy breeze. a little bit away from that and

we should manage to get up to 71 in san mateo. san francisco is not quite 70s but up to 67. for the north bay up to 78 in santa rosa. temperatures are eventually going to take a dip when we had next week. everything looks kind of delayed by about a day right now, so likely staying with some 70s into tuesday and wednesday and then 60s coming back thursday and friday. when we get into the 60s we will see the chance of some rain return next week. still does not look very big. trace amounts to may be upwards of a quarter of an inch as we head into next thursday and also next fridays forecast and likely some sierra snow. i will continue to monitor that. otherwise look at that we can pick up her 60s in san francisco. across the inland valleys not too cold in the mornings. low 50s.

are due to investors pulling back when it comes to investing in aim they saw more positive numbers today rising 211 points. the number of americans who live past 100 years old is going . they say this could create a financial problem. called a centenarians be people living longer because of more advancements in technology and healthcare. right now there are about 100,000 in the u.s. but it's estimated that number will could ruble by the year 2054. financial experts say it will impact retirement, people who live longer will have longer retirements, so they need to have more in their savings accounts as well. they say one solution is to work longer.
