>> the south bay burger joint closing its doors after being open for 6 decades. how the owner of the popular restaurant says she's being forced to shut down her business. >> when fun time from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news. >> and thanks for joining us at 10. i'm vicki liviakis and i'm noelle bellow. tonight marks 3 years since the death of mario gonzalez. the alameda man was in police custody when he died of a 6 th 3 officers are now facing involuntary manslaughter charges connected to his death. our first and thorne reports from the vigil held for gonzalez tonight. mario gonzalez. his family calls it his angel for surrey. >> friday, marking 3 years since his death in alameda police custody. it was in this park. alameda police say officers responding to a report of gonzales talking to himself and acting oddly, they were then seen on body cam

video pinning the 26 year-old father to the ground face down before he died. gonzales, his cause of death was later ruled as a homicide. gonzalez's family expressed some joy in knowing the 3 officers are now facing criminal charges, but is good >> betty have grateful receive the notice. >> gonzalez's mother edith are in. ali's says the body cam video shows the police were clearly in the wrong alameda county district attorney pamela price announced the involuntary manslaughter charges thursday night. he hopes i and >> thankfully we finally got news that they're going proceed with the charges or at >> we gained corning's attack than ceremony was held in gonzales. this honor as people in the community also lit candles and brought flowers to alter. his family says they hope the criminal charges

attorney. >> otherwise, you know, we will not be here today and talking about a week off. >> members of the group safe say they are waiting for the alameda county board of supervisors to accept the recall certification and set a date for an election. we did reach out to price's office and her campaign for comment but have not yet heard back. >> happening now, a highway 37 in the north bay is closed for the weekend. caltrans says that its repaving, the westbound lanes this weekend and next weekend and then working on the eastbound lanes. the first couple of weekends of may. they say that there are other ways to get around, though. >> well, beginning around 20 to you're going to go right towards napa and state route. 29, where you'll catch. they wrote one. 21 where you make a left to go eastbound to once again keep going and cats. 12 that would take you down to state route. 37, everybody here that is local kind of knows this route as a

shortcut. but it's not. it's along the tours that we're expecting that to be from one hour to 2 hours. so we really are asking the public to plan ahead. >> that road is expected to reopen around the 5 monday morning after each weekend. closure. all right. this is usually where we do your wake-up weather. but since it's friday, we're going to call it your weekend weather. and i've got a pretty good weekend on tap for you. we are going to have some marine layer that's going to roll in overnight tonight. >> which means we'll start off a little gray tomorrow. but then once that dissipates, we're looking good. we've got some nice sunshine coming our way for saturday. we're going to be a little breezy on saturday, particularly in the afternoons. just watch out for that. and along the coast. but temperatures going to be really nice saturday. by sunday. we warm up a little bit more. get that sunshine going. calm the wind down a little bit. by the way, monday, which is earth day looking great to back in just a little bit. we'll talk more about our forecast.

>> protesters rallying at the dublin women's prison today, angry that some of the 600 prisoners are set to be transferred to other facilities without meant coming after officials said the prison would be closing. >> they're terrified the public. colleen, like it each day thinking i'm going to be transferred today. i don't know that's going to have contact with the people. i love. >> the group believes the closure is an attempt to escape being held responsible for persistent problems at the prison. at least 8 employees have been charged with sexually abusing inmates in the past 3 years. no word yet on a date of when they plan to close that prison. and arrest has been made in a stabbing death in east palo alto. the stabbing happened back in february on bell street at university avenue. investigators released this surveillance video last month saying they believe the people

inside that white suv witnessed the attack on a man named frank finding finding died a month later in the hospital. a 19 year-old has been arrested and charged in the death. another person was also stabbed that night, but they survived. oakland. police say that they've arrested 8 people for a series of armed robberies. the most recent incident happening tuesday morning. >> a delivery truck driver was dropping off tobacco products on mountain boulevard and shown avenue in 2 cars with several armed people pulled up still the products and took off during the investigation. officials connected the armed robbery to a series of other robberies throughout the bay area. >> in just a few days, a legendary business in san jose will fade into memory. the last burger pit restaurant is closing for good after serving silicon valley for 60 years as prime for jack moment reports customers have been coming out to support the burger pet and its final days.

>> new at 10, 3 people are without a home tonight after their house caught on fire in castro valley. firefighters say the house burt street caught fire this afternoon. nobody was hurt. investigators are still looking into what may have sparked those flames. tesla's eye-catching cyber tracks are being recalled, according to traffic safety officials. there's a manufacturing flaw. >> that causes one its petals to get stuck the truck is at full speed. pretty scary situation. kron four's rob nesbitt, however, went on a ride along with a bay area cybertruck owner who says he's a found a fix to the flaw. >> the cybertruck honor i spoke to says he has not had his accelerator gets stuck but search social media and you'll find several videos of owners showing the problem. >> see how tight we know in the ratings. it took him 2 years of being on a waitlist. but david la placa finally got his new cybertruck 2 weeks ago. a new thing versus the old tesla's. he loves how it

drives all the advances in technology, but he doesn't love how eye-catching it can gets maybe a little too much attention. >> people always i literally have people want to pull up in parking lot. clapping here. >> cyber trucks are also getting the attention of the national highway traffic safety administration. nearly 4,000 cyber trucks likely all on the road today are being recalled because of a faulty accelerator pedal supposedly. >> some instances is loose and then it can kind of get stuck in. there is what hurt. >> it hasn't happened to la placa but many drivers like jose martinez had posted on tiktok slip showing how the cover of their accelerator can slide forward and get stuck in that rim of the interior. this morning, i went down to the >> tesla dealership marion to talk about it. and said they're going to fixing it by putting basically a vote on solar panel. so that's what the fix might be simple. but given the fact that cyber trucks are made to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than 30 seconds.

>> sam abuelsamid with guidehouse insights as the problem is not simple. drivers don't have a whole lot of time to respond. >> in and in this case, you know where it could come as a complete surprise. you know, all of a sudden you press press the foot down. alright. and then you lift off. and the car study at the truck is still accelerating. you might have no idea why abuelsamid says the accelerator issue is a problem of poor engineering and poor manufacturing at tesla, but he does not see the first recall of cyber trucks having much of a stain on the company's reputation. >> this driver would agree my spirits but amazing. i love this thing. the recall affects all 2024 cyber trucks made between november 13th and april 4th. tesla is also delaying deliveries of new trucks reporting in the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> meantime, we have seen gas prices jumped $0.50 over the last month. there is some slight relief for bay area. prices did drop about $0.5 in most areas. this week compared

to beginning of the week from the north bay down to the peninsula. you're paying about $5.70 for a gallon of regular gas in the east bay. a little relief for drivers. their gas is about alameda county and is a 5.60, and contra costa county as well. there in the south bay 5.56. is the cost of a gallon of regular gas right out of the 4 zone forecast, though, since we're talking about gas and cars and take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza traffic light at this hour. yeah, not too many going out tonight. kron four's kyla grogan this year. >> anyone trying to go out tomorrow is going to find some nice weather. yeah, they are early in the morning. we're likely to have a little bit of fog like we did this morning, particularly along the coast. but then >> going to be off to the races looking pretty good. let's take a look at where temperatures went today and you can in antioch, we got up to 75 degrees. 65 in oakland. 61 in san francisco. we have some nice 70's out there. no doubt about it. the coast little cooler there at 57

degrees. so here we are tonight and you can see a little bit of cloud cover as we take a live look from the east bay. current temperatures out there. pretty comfortable not expecting anything too wild today, but you can see we're already in the 40's and half moon bay right now. everyone else with the exception of san jose's dipped into the 50's and our wind is not bad but a little bit breezy tomorrow. we're going to see that pick up in the afternoon, particularly along the coast right now. you can see we've got a little bit in san francisco, bit of a delta breeze happening over there in fairfield as well. all right. so where are we going tonight tonight? we're going to see that marine layer buildin. that means we're going to have some of those partly cloudy skies, a little patchy fog, both for our coastal areas and also in the valleys. i mentioned temperatures are going to be too wild tonight. you can see, you know, my lowest lows in inland valleys will be in the 40's up to the low 50's as we work our way around the bay. so that's all looking pretty good. and then we'll take a look at this marine layer buildin so overnight tonight that we're going to start to see this moving in, but fear not because tomorrow, just like

today, we're going to see this dissipated. once it does. we'll be off to the races with some really nice temperatures. i mean, back a little bit. we'll talk about that. but we're also talking about this low pressure system up to the north and west of what that means for our forecast as we get into next week past the really gorgeous weekend that we're going to have back to you. >> here at the high street trading. we are hopping on the train to go to shanghai from beijing. yes, i cannot wait to get this high speed train in california. let's people. >> san francisco, mayor london breed sharing her excitement, experience before boarding a high-speed train in china. that train takes. passengers says she's set from beijing to shanghai, distance of more than 800 miles in just 4 and a half hours. mayor breed says that if this technology made its way to california would be quote and model for the rest of the country breed has been in china for almost a week now to improve relations and attract more business to the city.

>> a san francisco couple who started a petition complaining about noise from a nearby pickleball court. well having their own pickleball court in their backyard have reportedly sold that presidio heights home, according to the real estate news outlet, the real deal the couple appears to have found a buyer for their home. it was listed for 29 million dollars on zillow last year. the couple started a petition to remove nearby public pickleball courts complaining the game's sound was disturbing them. however, pickleball players cried hypocrisy after it was revealed the petersons owned their own court in their backyard. park eventually converted several of presidio walls, courts to tennis courts. >> sacramento music festival known for bringing r and b artist is being postponed until next year because of some safety concerns. organizers of so say that all the rain we've got this season damage the park where the festival gets held. people who

enroll in this life saving treatments, but the way that you access that treatment actually requires you line up every day in the morning. there's methadone clinic in downtown san francisco. and the other problem with that is that tracks drug dealers open air drug dealing actually surrounding these methadone clinic says people are preyed on when they try to get on so we're going to change that and actually make california a place where it's easier to get on treatment. we have to make easier to get treatment and it is to get these deadly drugs like fences. >> says if the bill does pass, it would allow patients to pick up several doses of the medicine instead of lining up for them every day. >> police in petaluma are looking for 2 men accused of stealing $3,000 worth of power tools. police say these 2 men loaded up shopping carts with tools. it friedman's home improvement store tuesday evening and then ran out. the men were seen driving off in a black jeep cherokee. anyone with information is asked to

to a lawsuit and as our kron four's, dan kerman reports tonight, the a's have filed paperwork to get involved in that suit. >> it was in june of last year when the nevada legislature passed sb one, a bill earmarking 380 million dollars in public money to help pay for the a's. new baseball stadium in las vegas in february of this year. the nevada teachers union filed a lawsuit against the governor, the treasurer and the state of nevada suggesting the way sb one was written violates nevada's constitution. issue we're having. is that the vote tally was not two-thirds majority for revenue peace. >> that this funding mechanism that they structured under this bill assumes deaths from the county without that's that revenue peace involved, that the law itself, you know, doesn't mention certain populations and the county and the language is very sloppy written when it comes to stop iran, rather when it comes to assuming that that's since the initial filing, the legislature and the las vegas stadium authority have also

been named in the suit. >> and while a's owner john fisher, he's the one to benefit from the public funds and sb one. the a's are not named in the suit. but this week the a's filed a motion with the court to intervene in the case saying the athletics and affiliates have a substantial interest in sb one and will be affected if sb one is found unconstitutional without intervention, the athletics ability to protect its interests will be impaired. strong public schools wicl be opposing their intervention. >> we think there are interests are well represented by the other defendants, many of whom were basically unregistered lobbyist for them during session. so those folks want this stadium just as much as they do a separate filing by as president dave kaval confirms financing and a development agreement for the new stadium had not been finalized but the process is underway. >> it's unclear when the court will rule on the a's participation in this lawsuit. dan kerman kron, 4 has got

their london breed is really trying to keep macy's in union in the letter she wrote a macy's c e o. >> she in fact offered a partnership between macy's in san francisco. that would include tax incentives. the store announced that it would close in 2026. >> bart will be renovating its elevators and escalators following a settlement reached with disability rights advocates, those advocates and sued bart back in 2017 accusing the transit agency of failing to ensure full and equal access to station services such as elevators and escalators, which is a violation of the americans with disabilities act. bart is also now required to dispatch a repair person within one hour after an elevator escalator breaks down that any station. >> the push to ban plastic shopping bags at stores all across the state is a step closer to becoming reality. the bill would remove a provision that allowed stories thicker reusable bags made out of recycled plastic at store

checkouts and require stores to provide 100% recycled paper bags. supporters of the bill say that those thicker bags, the plastic ones and up in the landfills anyway. but the plastics industry says that the bill would cost jobs. the bill is heading to the senate appropriations committee for consideration. >> nearly 2000 positions for the california service corps have opened up right here in the bay area. san jose mayor matt mahan is calling on young students to help fill the roles that tackle climate change, support communities affected by disaster and help to mentor students. today, mayor mahan join court members to share how the work has had a lasting impact on underserved communities in 2022. governor newsome created initiative for members to earn money for their service. now they can receive up to $10,000 after completing their service. >> thanks to the california volunteers who are providing opportunities for our young people to get civically engaged a paycheck and take

pyramid in downtown san going to be nice right? it's -- >> that's right. it's going to be great. actually, really lovely weekend ahead, everybody having a pretty nice night out there tonight, even though we've got a few clouds are rolling in, temperatures are mostly in the 50's. however, half moon bay is at 48 degrees right now. and if you head inland to spots like antioch are down san jose, they are in the low 60's. but like i said, everyone else kind of hanging out in the 50's. this is the difference in temperatures from 24 hours ago to now. so we are running a little bit cooler in many spots, particularly inland, as you can see. but still, despite that pretty nice night out there, we take a look here at the wider view and you see a low pressure system way up to the north and west. that is going to affect our weather next week. right now it's more of the marine layer that's rolling in. that's going to be affecting the evening. so having said that, that is not going to put a crimp in your plans after tomorrow morning. so you can see right now as we take a look here as we move later into the evening and the overnight, we are going to see

that visibility decrease in many spots. when you wake up tomorrow morning, just like this morning, we're going to see some gray skies out there. having said that once that kind of dissipates check out these temperatures tomorrow, they are going to be even warmer than they were today in many spots inland. so some nice upper 70's, even potentially an 80 degree mark or 2 out there as you head inland as you go around the bay, low 70's upper 60's and then can see it get up the coast. we're going to see those clouds kind of hang on. and even in san francisco where we will be great for a good portion of the morning. that's where things are going to be a little cooler. okay. this is for one of our directors ito who likes to ride his motorcycle on the weekends in concord. tomorrow we start 06:00am. bit of fog in the morning. but after that, temperatures set to roll up, as you can see into those upper 70's are going to get close to that 80 degree mark and the wind is going to pick up a little bit the afternoon. but outside of that looking pretty good. let's look at the longer term you might have heard of the chance of rain that we may have for next week. that's not this weekend. you're looking at sunday afternoon, right there. you see lots of sunshine by next

tuesday, though, you start to see a little moisture making its way in. and by thursday, you see the slight chance and it is just a slight chance models are trying to bring a little rain and it will be thursday into friday. and even if it does make it and that is kind of an if you can see the totals here would not be impressive. so i don't think there's going to be a whole lot to write home about. having said that, it is in the forecast there. you can see a look here at the next 10 days. earth day. looking good, by the way, as well as the weekend. then we cool it down have that chance of a shower. and then it looks like we kind of roll back to what i would call typical normal. >> weather next weekend after this one kind of looks like we're going to be a will is i know i know a bit of a roller coaster. yeah. think about it inland. we should be like 71. 72 73. we should not be 80. you know, we be pushing that high up quite yet. >> august will thanks, guys. thanks. kyla.
