university officials kron four's terisa stasio joins us now live from there. and what is the situation? >> well, just in the situation is that these are very passionate students with a lot to say. cover the quad campus in san francisco state university. a protester setting up to speak up. >> similar to statements being made other college campuses around the country. these protesters say that they are out here to push university officials and u.s. officials to disclose expenditures. the college may with foreign investors divest. if those are controversial and have controversial ties to the region defend palestinians declare the occupation of gaza as a designated spokesperson talked to me about the group's schools. i important for the entire this encampment and other cameras around the country across the not about

demonstrators camping out there since last thursday. they want the school to disclose investments and cut any financial ties with israel. some jewish students say the campus protests have created an anti semitic atmosphere that makes them feel uncomfortable. and in some cases intimidated. >> live in great these people are taking advantages of the freedoms afforded by this country. white will simultaneously chanting death to america. almost nightly basis. and so i think it's good for them to recognize that. maybe they should be thankful for the country that they're protesting in. >> a group called stanford for palestine says 9 of their student members were cited by the university for discipline perry violations for protesting. we did reach out to stanford for comment when we get a response will let you know. and the student-led pro palestine protests are continuing across the nation. also in the bay area will go to uc berkeley were demonstrators remain at an encampment at sproul plaza for a second week. those involved

are calling on the university to stop investing in companies that work with israel, especially if they're involved in making weapons of war. students have been camping out there since monday of last week. tyler gregory, the ceo of the bay area's jewish community relations council posted the following message on social media in response to signs at uc berkeley at the protests there that red glory to the martyrs victory to the resistance. it seemed to be in response to the hamas terror attack on october 7 that killed 1200 people and took more than 250 people hostage. gregory's message reads in part here, these berkeley signs are not pro-palestine their pro-hamas and its support of terrorism against jews and do nothing to help the cause of palestinian statehood. and standoff between pro-palestine protesters and u.s. college administrators appears to be coming to a head at columbia university in new york. the protesters took over a

building this morning by barricading themselves inside. this is coming a day after demonstrators ignored an ultimatum to abandon their encampment. the school has promised that these people would face expulsion. police removed move to a club. they wanted to clear out this encampment at yale university in connecticut. but at northwestern university, which is outside of chicago, school officials and protesters have reached an agreement to allow the demonstrations through the end of the spring classes. lawmakers on capitol hill are watching closely. >> this is not the free marketplace of ideas. this is open threats to jewish students because of their faith and the rampant anti-semitism. requires action by the federal government. >> but democrats say that this legislation is not the answer, saying that they are constitutionally bound to protect free speech. more importantly, when it's speech that they don't agree on. and stay with us here on air and online for the latest information on the

israel-hamas war from the campus protests to what's happening in gaza. also, the latest on hostages. you can go to our website kron 4 dot com. and congress is taking on anti-semitism with the new bill that would make hate speech against jews punishable by law. the house is set to vote this week on the anti-semitism awareness act the bipartisan bill would codify the definition of anti-semitism by adopting the international holocaust remembrance. alliance's definition. supporters say the move would give the education department more clarity and authority over anti-semitic speech at college protests. but opponents argue the bill is too broad and threatens free speech. also on the state has opened up an investigation into the group that's paying for the effort to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price kron 4 sleep to call reports the california fair political practices commission is looking into potential violations of the political reform act.

>> alameda county district attorney pamela price. as back in december, her campaign protect the win for public safety filed a complaint with the california fair political practices commission against reviving the bay area. the political action committee finance the save media for everyone safe is the group leading the effort against toronto on tuesday during a news conference in oakland is price confirmed the fppc has formally opened an investigation between. 2023, and october, november 2023, they donated approximately $578,000 to safe without complying with the laws that govern all political committees in california. in a letter the fppc says it is investigating supporters to recall pamela price for potential violations of the

afternoon. i've noticed these numbers start to go up just like they did yesterday. so we're now getting a little gusty here, san francisco, 21 miles per hour. but notice this wind is also now over at oakland hayward out in san jose. so getting a little bit more widespread. and if we head out to the water and we take a look at the buoys, some of these wind gusts you can see now picked up upwards of 40 miles per hour. 35 miles per hour or so. unfortunately, that's creating a little bit of danger out in the water where they have a gale warning that goes until 03:00am on thursday. so we see gusts up to 40 knots, which, you know, are are just starting to see in some spots and waves 10 to 15 feet can see central and ssuthern california also have a high surf advisory. so what this means is not only another windy afternoon, but we kind of got more wind as we head across the week, in fact or get some offshore wind once we get into tomorrow afternoon and we'll have kind of both of these happening at the same time. so the breezy conditions will be sticking with us, but the sunshine will be sticking with us, too. and in fact, we're going to warm up over the next 3 days before we have a very dramatic cool down coming and a chance of rain will talk about that in your

seven-day forecast. back to you. >> all right. today, a california, california attorney general rob bonta hosted a roundtable discussion south bay community leaders highlighting the ongoing efforts to prevent gun violence and identifying the best practices to help keep communities safe. his focus was on giving locals the tools necessary to stop the shooting as well as implementing rules and other cities. >> we status quo, state of affairs where we have more mass shootings in a year than days in the calendar year where leading cause of death for our youth. is gun violence. where we lose 45,000 people each year to gun violence. we have more guns in more places and that creates more gun violence and morgan death. >> fatah says investing in the community will be to meaningful change. >> coming up here, raising

>> in the east bay, a massive fire burned a building in

concord nearby. roads are still closed and this will impact the commute tonight. kron 4 charles clifford has the details. >> well, here in concord on tuesday, the cleanup work continues across the street there you can see a three-story is a complete loss after a dramatic fire overnight. fortunately no one was injured, but it's going to take some time to clean up the mess. late monday evening, fire broke out in this vacant three-story building at the intersection of clayton road and park street in concord. this is just across the street from the concord bart station. according to contra costa county fire. there were no active fire alarms or smoke detectors inside the building which allowed the flames to grow unchecked until a passerby noticed smoke and called 9-1-1. when there's system >> alarm in place, we only get the call a good citizen lets us know. >> when fire crews arrived on scene, they searched the building, recognize no one was inside with defensive because i was going to be a safer way to fight the fire. the fire eventually grew to a second alarm. the roof also

collapsed, but crews were able to contain the blaze by about one tuesday morning. they were also able to keep the fire from spreading to other buildings in the nearby bart station was not impacted. crews are now keeping an eye on the building to make sure the fire doesn't kick back up again. they're still going to be a few hot we're monitoring, but the fire is out at this stage or just do a mop up making sure those hot spots don't reignite the exact cause of this fire is still under investigation in concord, charles, clifford kron, 4 news. >> all lanes in the bay bridge are back open. a car fire from this morning temporarily shut down several lanes. the chp share this photo of what was going on and saying that all the lanes reopened by noon. this happened just west of treasure island. it's unclear what caused the fire or if anyone was kurt hurt. but there was pretty bad back up earlier this afternoon. a dead gray whale that washed up off the coast of alameda likely

die due to a vessel strike. that's according to the california academy of sciences and april 20th, the great well identified by scientists as a 40 foot adult female washed up off the shore of crown beach. it was then towed to a dryland, the state park where scientists performed a necropsy and that determine the whale likely die due to blunt force trauma from a vessel strike. however, the official cause of the whale's death could not be fully determined due to its decomposed state and body position. golden gate ferry service between sausalito and san francisco is scheduled to resume tomorrow. the commuter ferry service posted on x saying that the repairs to the sausalito appear were done this week. ferry service has been closed for about 2 weeks after dam, which was founded. one of the piers piles. and again, it's starting up again tomorrow. the windy, if you took a ferry today. here's a live look at the golden gate bridge right now. karl is here now with details. nice and sunny out their best. the

breeze, though, you've got it is mess everybody. you could say that about facebook's i did interviews with people getting off of the ferries in oakland when we have one of these kind of wild, windy days and people are like. >> it's a different ride, isn't it is a little breezy out there. so steal your nerves for that folks. but >> you know, this is kind of the profile we're going to be. and for the next few days with some of these windy conditions. take a live look outside here too, said this is the embarcadero. feel like the cameras taken a little bit of a fall here. it's not quite as pretty as it usually is. usually it shows you the blue skies in the sunshine and that would be courtesy of the high pressure that's sitting off the coast. and that is going strengthen increase a little bit as we get to the next couple of days. so you can see where the blue skies are here. as we look at stormtracker cloud staying well off shore. and right now temperatures are reflecting that, right? we're warming up. it's quite nice 70 in san jose. 71 in dublin. 62 in downtown san francisco. notice the coast still in the 50's. but you had to napa. we're at 71 degrees up in the north bay. san jose now is up to 75. so that is courtesy of

high pressure. so it means that tonight if you're headed to oakland baseball game as they take on the pirates, that should be really nice about 65 degrees. when they threw out the first pitch at 6.40. but watch out for those breezy conditions, i would take a jacket because it has in that wind gets going in the gates. some of the sunshine that we've got out there, especially you're sitting higher up in the stadium there. you can get some of that wind going. going to stick with oakland. we're taking a live look from the east bay here or there and give you full day and let's talk temperatures because over the next few days we are going to warm up in oakland as we will all across the bay to above average temperatures. then saturday. will we go down and i do mean quickly and that is because we are going to see that high pressure start to break down. when that happens, it's going to allow a front through now. the models are going back and forth on this. but right now, this is the latest. where brings this through on saturday? you can see it also wants to bring in a little sierra snow. we're going to see if that holds. but i do think we'll get a little something. and at the very least we're going to get a whole lot cooler. and you can see that they're from friday to saturday. so get ready to enjoy the sunshine

and warm temperatures along with the breeze is for the next couple of days and then get that jacket out on saturday. maybe even a jacket with a hood. i think i don't know if you need the umbrella, but >> we're going to be awfully cool. that's for sure. back to you. >> there's a new memorial on display at sycamore park in davis honoring the life of bu najim. one of the victims killed the davis stabbing spree last spring. a bench now sits for the 20 year-old uc davis student died. he was 6 weeks away from graduation when he was attacked while riding his bike through sycamore park. hundreds of people including the uc davis marching band, joined his family members in a procession as they remembered kareem's life. >> we lost someone on april. 29 last year. that and i we lost our son and you lost a friend student. i'm not to. fellow they've a citizen. >> people also gathered of the weekend in davis's central park to honor the other victim

with a second victim that was killed in the stabbings a year ago. creams family says this latest memorial will stand the test of time and serve as a reminder to the uc davis community. the importance of protecting future generations of students. san francisco supervisor joel and gardea wants to raise awareness about hepatitis b. he introduced a resolution to call the month of may happen. titus awareness month in san francisco. he says that there is a dire need to address the rising rates of hepatitis b and c hepatitis is caused by a virus in the blood. he wants the state department of health to expand services to treat people and expand awareness. he says the api community is at risk for getting hepatitis b and c. only 6%. >> of the u.s. population is a a p i but that 6% accounts for 58% of americans living with hepatitis b, san francisco has one of the largest api

least 14,000 workers. the ev company is laying off hundreds more, including 2 high-level executives, the executive director of tesla's supercharger group and the head of new products. according to a report by the tech site, the information there was e-mail sent by elon musk to those executives and it's leaving room now for even more layoffs to come calling the cuts absolutely, saying that any employee who does not pass the excellent necessary and trustworthy test would be out of a job. a previous report by bloomberg says the tesla could end up cutting more than 20,000 employees in total. and today is the deadline for college students to qualify for a federal loan forgiveness, students who enrolled in income-driven college loan repayment plans or public service loan forgiveness programs are eligible. some parents who borrowed through the federal family education loan program can also get the spate break. the biden administration's loan forgiveness can cover all

or some of remaining college loan debt. and you can see if you qualify at student aid dot gov. pg and e is saying it has heard your complaints and will start lowering electricity bills. the utility company claims rate increases over the past year were to raise money for infrastructure improvements. more than 10% of a jump happened this past january. and that sparked some outcry and scrutiny from state regulators to allow the utility to hike up the prices. response pg new ceo is saying bills could start dropping as early as next year. cause they will be done with those improvements. coming up, california's population is growing. how many more people added were came here just last year alone. plus the campaign to build a new city and california is now moving forward. so we'll see what happens next. now that the group, california forever says it has enough signatures to qualify for the november ballot. and the dea is

>> california forever. the group working to build a new city in solano county has reached yet another milestone. they say they have received enough signatures to qualify their initiative for the november ballot. they made the submission today to the county elections office kron four's tiffany justice has the latest. the group says they have 7,000 more signatures than needed and they're confident all 20,000 signatures collected. >> will be verified.

soon receive $1000 every month. thanks to a new initiative that's been funded by google and other local nonprofits. the pilot program called it all adds up aims to test the concept of guaranteed basic income across 5 different years. 450 families are going to receive these cash stipends half will receive $1000 a month. the other half will be a control group receiving $50 a month. the payments will be distributed exclusively to families who are about to lose access to city funded housing subsidies. the program is part of a broader 1 billion dollar effort by google to increase the bay area's housing supply. hundreds of people in the bay area just excuse me in california of the muslim faith just wrapped up a full day of advocacy at the state capitol. there were people from the bay area there, including a 600 muslims and they were taking part in the 13th annual muslim day at the capitol. they want to see several pieces of legislation move forward,

including a proposal to grant california public school students and exemption from physical education classes. if they are fasting advocates also urging support for a resolution resolution denouncing a surge in islamophobia amid the war in gaza. >> muslim community absolutely shows art. the reason it was 600 this year probably because so many of them wanted to be there and cushion. calling for, you calling for up to to be heard for themselves to be heard and intro lawmakers to listen. >> this day was put on by the council on american islamic relations in california. and organizers are hoping that their priority legislation will make it to the governor's desk. also, for your help today, california is going to go into the drug business in order to combat the ongoing fentanyl crisis as kron four's rob nesbitt reports, governor gavin newsom says the state will begin selling its own generic version of narcan.

>> on monday, governor gavin newsom announced that his administration has secured a cal rx branded over-the-counter naloxone for $24. a pack. that's how much the state will pay. but doctor mark galli from california, health and human services says most of the twin packs used to reverse an overdose will cost consumers. nothing in san francisco. you picked one of many harm reduction or substance use disorder service providers. >> public health clinics. some of the commercial clinics will provide narcan to make it available. free of charge. the goal with the program, according to governor newsom's office is to make sure lifesaving medication. >> doesn't result in people going into debt. i spoke with bronze, courtney, from the hiv education and prevention project of alameda county or helped pack about the financial struggles. those facing addiction often face. some folks were talking about like, am i going to eat? >> or am i going to have narcan or am i going to have, you know, some basic needs

some hygiene stuff or my going to have nor can he does harm reduction, work out in the community and non-clinical settings to have pack. >> harm reduction has become a contentious topic when it comes to dealing with addiction. >> san francisco mayor london breed spoke out against it earlier this year because, you know, i reduction from my perspective is not reducing the harm. >> those who work in reducing drug overdoses by handing out narcan disagree, referencing years of research and statistics. it's about getting people education information and access to resources that literally keep them alive. that's what harm reduction is about. >> governor newsom's office says the orders have been made for the cheaper narc can and should be arriving as early as next month. >> reporting in the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> a historic step towards easing marijuana restrictions. the dea today proposing reclassify cannabis to a schedule. one drug which would put it alongside tylenol and steroids. marijuana had been a

schedule 3 drug in the same category as drugs like heroin and methamphetamines. since 1971, the proposal must still be reviewed by the white house the risk of calling a spare the air alert for unhealthy air quality becomes greater. karl is here now with details today. we have a breeze like this, though, that would help with some of the the small. it depends right have that very much. depends on what's going on. but i'm happy to say that what's going on today is that not only do we have the blue skies, but we have.

>> really nice air quality out there. and that's we're expecting good portion of this week. we really have anything in our purview that would say that things will change, but it's certainly something i definitely keep an eye on for you. as you can see, stormtracker 4 showing you these beautiful blue skies that right over the bay area. and as we look over the next few days, our story is going to be they're going to keep that sunshine. we're going to be warming up and you can see our inland spots could get very close to the 80 degree mark. i think a few of them will likely hit it. then things changed pretty drastically. we have a front coming through. likely to bring us a little bit of rain on saturday and then that got me looking at the sierra because we get rain. sometimes they get snow right. this late in the season, though, obviously it's very beautiful out there right now. they're looking out for some gorgeous sunshine over the next few days. but the models are getting a little interesting here. now. we're a little early to say whether this is going to hold. but right now, you know, we're getting these very kind of a bullish on snow models that are coming in. this model runs. this could go

back and forth over the next few days. so something to keep an eye on. but i think the big point here is if you're planning to be in this year this weekend, keep an eye on the weather because we could see some slick road conditions depending on what happens with this and how low snow levels would go. now likely they would stay pretty high. but the timing would be saturday afternoon to sunday morning. so i will be keeping an eye on that for you just check in with me for get to the weekend. i'll be back. we'll talk a little bit more about our 7 day forecast here in the bay. back to you. >> well, if you've filled up your car lately, you've noticed it's not cheap. and over the last month, average statewide gas prices have gone way up. but now the head of california's well watchdog division is out with some new data. he believes he's going to show oil companies are raking in the profits. while we all feel the pain at the pump. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace gives us a closer look at the numbers. >> there's an urgent need to protect california consumers from price down. that's the

message from time. milder director of the state's brand new oil watchdog known as the division of petroleum market oversight. its creation last summer. the division has been collecting data from the oil industry and working with the california energy commission to determine whether or not to annex some sort of penalty on oil companies if they are found to be taking part in price gouging. we are working to provide active oversight and to make sure that the market it's setting the prices that these are fair prices. milder says while it's too early in the data collection process to conclude whether price gouging is taking place, he says he does have some early concerns. californians have been paying too much at the pump for too long as of today, the state average cost of regular unleaded gas is five-dollars $0.39 per gallon. milder note over the last month between late march in late april, gas prices on average, increased by $0.44 in the state. but he says that the same time the price of crude oil on the market increased by just $0.3 while the industry margin, which is

commercial brotha was busted in san jose following a months long investigation. police say they got a tip in november regarding suspicious activity. >> possibly connected to human trafficking at a home on north 16th street. investigation was launched. then a 53 year-old was identified as the primary suspect. detective scott an arrest warrant and arrested him on april 19th. they search the home and say they found evidence of a commercial brothel. the suspect was booked into the santa clara county main jail. and then charged with pimping and pandering. former president donald trump has been found in contempt of court for violating a gag order in his hush money trial in a written decision, the new york judge presiding over the trial says mister trump violated that order 9 times. the former president have been fine. now $1000 for each violation. coming up with that $9,000 number. and under this gag order, mister trump is not allowed to comment on witnesses. jurors, court staff

today. we are breezy out there now. this is where get a little interesting because you see we have a wind advisory like, well, that's not for us. really it sacramento, but it is part of our viewing area that is in this and it goes into effect late tonight till tomorrow because there's actually be some offshore winds developing inland. so spots like of slanted county, yellow county. you're in this gust to 45 miles per hour. you can see coast throughout the day on wednesday to about 5 o'clock. so starts in the overnight hours tonight. let me show you kind of how this is going to because right now the wind that we're dealing with is an onshore flow, meaning coming from the ocean heading in towards the land. now, this is this evening. you see it's getting quite gusty particular along the coast now and take you to tomorrow in the early morning hours. look what's happening here. this is that offshore wind that wind advisory is for for those of you in solano and yolo counties. now we get to wednesday night and you start to see the onshore flow happening again. and then they kind of both happen as we get into thursday. right? so you've got this pushing on shore. so we get this windy

profile coming from different directions but still very windy over the next couple of days. so just be ready for that. you might feel that as you're driving across bridges, but obviously we've got a blue skies with us to. we've got beautiful temperatures out there right now. our inland spots getting into the low to mid 70's while the coast stays cool because of that on shore flow still sitting in the 50's. so pretty nice night out. there should be relatively clear, i think at best we could see a few coastal clouds maybe, but that's about it. and even think that will be a stretch. temperatures low 40's to about 50 degrees tomorrow. these are the highs so you can see we are going up up up inland to the upper 70's and low 80's. looks like we'll at 68 in san francisco. it's a nice 70's around the bay. then we have a little chance of rain coming in on saturday. that front is going knock those temperatures down. we'll start talking about that a little bit clearer as we get into tomorrow. but notice the temperature profile is just wildly different. once we hit saturday, whether we get some rain out of this one or not. back to thank you. kyla

democratic state lawmakers and environmental advocates hope in california can reach its offshore wind goals. they're proposing a one billion-dollar climate bond to fund. >> construction seaports to create more spaces, resources for the construction assembly and transportation up massive, offshore wind turbines set to go off the coast of california. california has a goal to have offshore wind supply. the state with enough electricity to power. 3.7 million homes. the proposal needs at least two-thirds approval from the legislature to qualify for the november ballot. and southwest airlines has now launched a compensation program for the 2022 holiday travel meltdown. nearly 17,000 flights were canceled due to bad weather and outdated computer software. 2 million passengers were stranded. the compensation program is part of a 140 million dollars settlement with the u.s. department of transportation. it provides travel vouchers of $75 or more. 2 passengers who
